This morning, we ventured out for brunch at Milton's, a cafe that's world famous for their french toast. (I might be making that part up about being world famous... but it's REALLY good.) Then, we walked around downtown Lawrence window shopping for a bit. We snapped our Week 5 picture in Borders, where we were scoping out the children's book section. We are hoping that Hayes will be a reader like both of us. (Chris, I made sure to get the corner of the Walter the Farting Dog book in the background just for you!)
Last Sunday, Kyle, Hayes and I visited Geraldine and Francis, our french friends. Geraldine is a post-doc in Kyle's lab. They made a cake and gave Hayes a lovely gift--a cute outfit and a ring of toys. It was a nice outing and Hayes behaved well. Geraldine was quite smitten and Francis seemed a little nervous about the prospect of a tiny baby. (He'll learn one day that they're not breakable!)
All in all, we've been enjoying the last few days of Kyle's parents' visit. They have been super helpful--feeding, diapering, cleaning, cooking. But, alas, they are heading back to SC tomorrow. (How can we get them to stay? I'm wondering...) I think they have really enjoyed getting to know Hayes. He has, in his own little baby way, enjoyed getting to know them. He turns his little head and perks up in response to their voices. We will all miss them!
