Chub

Well, maybe not chub yet, but we did get the good news today that Hayes gained 5 oz. in three days! He's up to 6 lb., 6 oz. We're going to modify his feeding schedule a little, but keep him on track to eat at least every 3 hours. We'll go back to the lactation consultant next Tuesday, when Hayes will be two weeks old. The general rule of thumb is that a baby should be back to his birth weight by two weeks. We are skeptical that he'll make it back to 6 lb., 12 oz. by then, but will wish for the best.

We're still working on setting up childcare--what a pain! It's so difficult to know what the right choice is--a nanny, a daycare, or a small in-home childcare provider. We have several options at the moment, all with their pros and cons. We're hoping to make the decision by next week. Yuck.

On a lighter note, we have been having a great time learning about a newborn's bodily functions. Kyle came into the nursery the other night and asked how the nursing was going. I said, "What's the opposite of 'pissed-off'?" He tentatively asked, "Pissed-ON?" Well, yes, that was the correct answer. Pee all down my stomach. Fun stuff. But Kyle has not escaped Hayes' wrath, either. I'm sure it's just the beginning!

Here are a few more pictures of life at our homestead. As you can see, Anya has not let herself feel left out. She's right in the middle of things. The other cats just tend to sniff Hayes and flinch wide-eyed whenever he makes any movement. And Hayes likes his bouncer, not that he has done anything but sleep in it.
