Hayes had an exciting last couple of days, whether he was awake for them or not! Monday, we visited the pediatrician, who answered all our first-time parent questions while he held Hayes cupped in his hands. He said Hayes is looking fine and was repaid for the compliment by a timely poop on Hayes' part. He is becoming remarkably gifted at his timing!!!
Then, yesterday, we visited the lactation consultant again and went in for my 2-week post-op. We got the great news that we are indeed beefing Hayes up---he was back up to 6 lbs., 11.5 oz. The general goal is to reach birth weight by 2 weeks. I'd say that we're doing awesome at being only 0.5 oz away from that goal, considering the feeding issues we've had. Hayes' face is filling out a bit and he's getting a double chin!!! (see below)
At my appointment, I was given the all-clear to drive again and the incision was examined. Everything looks great! Kyle and Hayes were good boys and slept in the waiting room the whole time.
The most exciting thing to happen was the incredible victory of our KU Jayhawks over Memphis in overtime to win the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE!!!! Kyle and I were both exhausted watching the game but definitely caught a second wind when Mario Chalmers hit the "miracle 3-pointer" to tie the game and send it to OT. We knew we'd win it after that. I know this probably sounds silly to some, but we really feel like we're a part of something bigger here in Lawrence. The whole city is on cloud nine! Watching every game in person at Allen Fieldhouse or on TV, we knew that this team was special, that they could win it all. But there is just so much luck that enters into the equation, too. The stars must've aligned correctly, because luck was on our side this year. It was an awesome finale to a terrific season. If we're still living here at the end of the summer, we'll buy season tickets once again.
It is only fitting that Hayes' Week 2 picture is in his KU regalia with the headlines from Tuesday's paper.
Here are some other random pics: Puddy checking out what's so great about the carseat and Hayes' awesome SC knit booties from Aunt Stephanie.
