Hayes also received a wonderful gift in the mail yesterday--a very soft and plush blanket from my cousins Matt and Sarah and their son, Owen. The blanket is gorgeous and has Hayes' name embroidered on it. Poor kid--he's already spent some of his few waking moments being posed on and wrapped in the blanket. It's just so darn cute and cuddly! I'm sure there will be many more photo shoots with the same blanket until I get the perfect pose. I can't resist. (Thank you for picking out the perfect gift, Sarah!)
Last night had a whole different highlight---our Jayhawks won the matchup against the mighty UNC Tarheels. KU came out REALLY strong in the first half, tried to give the game back to NC in the beginning of the second half, and then pulled ahead once again to a wonderful victory. My mom was outside at the end of the game (she couldn't stand the pressure--it made her way too anxious) and heard the entire neighborhood erupt in cheers and hoorays. She popped her head back inside and said that we must've won because of all the hoots and hollars going on. Literally, all the neighbors were out on our street and the street behind ours cheering and setting off fireworks. It was really neat that everyone poured out of their houses at 10 pm last night to share in each other's joy. Needless to say, the win was HUGE for our city! Next, our Jayhawks will face Memphis in the National Title game on Monday night. We'll be wearing our Jayhawk gear once again and hoping for another round of neighborhood revelry!
Today was a bit of a downer. My Mom and Dad left this morning to drive back home to SC. We were very sad to see them go. They were a tremendous help--not just in cooking and cleaning, but for tons of moral support in our first week at home with Hayes. Thank you, Mom and Dad! You are welcome anytime!
