Well, our family was able to leave the hospital yesterday and all come home together. Alison's parents drove all the way from SC and met us at the hospital about 20 minutes before we were discharged. It was perfect timing---they got to escort us home with Hayes. Alison continues to recover well, she feels pretty good in the morning and then as the day wears on she begins to feel more sore and remembers that she did have major surgery.
Hayes struggled the first 36 hours with putting on weight. He lost almost 9% of his body weight during that time (from 6 lbs 12 oz to 6 lbs 2 oz) and we were getting very worried about his ability to eat and get the calories that he needs. And then Cora came to meet with us. Cora was the lactation consultant who visited us on our second morning in the hospital and she was a total rockstar. She told us that once he lost 10% of his birth weight that we would be forced to supplement and that he would definitely get to that 10% if we didn't start right then. She really took the time to personalize the course of action she wanted to take to get Hayes some energy so that he could begin to eat better. Within three feedings, he had become a much better feeder and was going above and beyond with how much formula he was taking (She wanted him to take 15 mLs minimum at each feeding and he was getting after it and taking almost 20-- sounds like a true Hadden boy to me). Once all three of us got the hang of things it has gone a lot smoother at feeding time and Hayes is eating well. We have an appointment with the pediatrician on Monday and we'll hopefully hear that Hayes has put back on some of his lost weight.
Here are a few pictures from the last few days of our lives, and the first few days of Hayes' life. Now that we're home and have access to the internet, we'll be more diligent about posting!
