Week 30

What is better than being thrown up on by your child? Being thrown up on TWICE. And no, I'm not talking spit-up here. I'm talking bonafide vomit. Ugh. Yup, it's been a fun weekend. Poor Fisher has had a bit of a stomach bug--that both Kyle and I have had a variation of. I wonder how many days it will be before it strikes Hayes, too. Anyways, that's why Fisher is in his pj's for his weekly picture--- one of MANY sets we had to change him into for various reasons this weekend. The good news is that even though he wasn't feeling the greatest, he was still relatively happy, and we got great smiles for the weekly photo shoot. Fisher was sitting unassisted (except for a little side support from the boppy) for this week's pic and toppled the blocks over for the first time in the picture below. I fear that we won't be able to keep him away from the blocks from now on! He seems to have hit several developmental milestones in the past few weeks, like reaching, grabbing, sitting, purposeful movements to play/spin the toys on his exersaucer and jumperoo, and eating "solids" (the list includes rice cereal, sweet potatoes, and green beans). He is definitely getting the hang of eating, opening his mouth wide for the spoon whenever it comes near....except for when it held green beans, as he isn't the biggest fan of them so far.

Last weekend, we made a trip up the road to pick out a Christmas tree. We were all thrilled that I loved the second tree that we picked up. You can't beat 4 minute Christmas tree shopping!!!

Kyle took Hayes to his first ever basketball game on Friday night. It was to see no other than our UConn Huskies play in Hartford. Hayes was thrilled to go! He spent most of the game watching the Huskies mascot, which he kept calling the "UConn Husky Bear." He apparently didn't understand that the mascot is a dog... Kyle said that the reason Hayes was watching the mascot so intently was to make sure that he came no where near their section---he is a little scared of mascots (remember Clifford making him cry at the book fair a few weeks ago?).

Since the baby was sick, Kyle stayed home with him and Hayes and I went to Legofest on Saturday. Here he is "reading" the program:

Showing off his name tag:

By far, Hayes' favorite part of Legofest was building several versions of the perfect car. Kids were supposed to build cars and then race them down ramps. Hayes was content just to build.

Hayes was nervously excited to see two of his favorite characters made out of legos. He would not pose near them but instead, gave a very wide berth as we walked by them. I wonder what goes through that 2.5 year old mind of his... does he think they are real???

Much later, I cajoled him to stand (somewhat) near Spongebob for this picture, though he would not move even an inch closer.

The biggest news is that Hayes has been doing pretty well with potty training. He has not worn a diaper since last weekend, though he does wear "pull-ups" to bed at night. We've been setting the timer to remind him to go potty, and that seems to be working for now. He has had a few accidents, like one a day. He even has been staying dry for naps! One of his little friends in his class at school also showed up wearing "big boy underwear" last Monday, too, and I think that's making it easier for both of them. Hopefully, he'll continue to do well!
