Week 10

We are in the middle of another heat wave here in Connecticut. (Again, not what I signed up for when I moved to New England.) So, here is Fisher in his Week 10 photo lounging in the shade in one of our plastic chairs while the rest of us enjoyed kiddy pool time. He just needs a fruity drink with an umbrella in it to complete the picture of relaxation, doesn't he?

Fisher hasn't really made any strides in development in his 10th week. He's still doing what all newborn babies do---eating, sleeping, etc. with some awake time throughout the day (and unfortunately sometimes at night). In fact, we are having what I am coining "milestone envy." While we are enjoying every minute of Fisher being with us, we can't help but get a tad jealous of our friends and relatives with babies that are doing fun things like smiling and cooing. These babies are younger than Fisher but doing more---starting to give little glimpses of personality. We have to remind ourselves that Fisher is only 1 week old in "adjusted age" and that the smiles and cooing will come soon enough.

Hayes, on the other hand, kept us busy all week with one thing after another. The most exciting thing was that he stuck a grape stem up his nose (it seems perfectly natural to wonder if something like that will fit in such a small hole, right?). After much sneezing, being held down, using the booger sucker, shining flashlights up there, etc., Kyle was the hero and finally got him to blow it out. (I think I must have loosened it...) He is taking after his Aunt Stacey, who has a history of shoving beans up her nose. I hope this experience has curbed his curiosity of what will fit up there---I don't want to have to go through that again!
Almost as exciting was that Hayes went poopoo on the potty for the first time ever. YAY! I bet it'll be a while before we get him to do it again, but it gave us a glimpse of what it will be like to have him potty-trained and no longer in diapers. (He'll be so embarassed to read this when he's older----sorry, buddy!)

Hayes has also been saying some funny things lately. He keeps asking about monsters, something I'm sure the lovely slobber-monkeys at daycare taught him about. Thank you very much for the nightmares that I'm assuming will soon follow. I keep assuring him that there are no monsters anywhere near our house or even in our neighborhood. The kiddo is also picking up a lot of what we're saying and storing it away for future use. The other day, I was driving him home from school and I must have seemed annoyed at another car because Hayes said, "Mommy, that car is killin' you!" (Lately, I have been saying, "you're killin' me!" to other cars. Hey, at least I'm not using foul language!) Cutest of all is that Hayes has some new "Cars" books his grandparents bought him that talk about Sally being Lightning McQueen's girlfriend. After reading that part to him, I asked him who his girlfriend was, thinking he'd name one of his classmates. He looked at me and sweetly said, "you're my girlfriend, Mommy." My heart melted on the spot!

Here is Hayes modelling the Cars pj pants that his Grandmomma made for him. Aren't they great?

Kyle, Fisher, and I made a trip to Ikea and bought Hayes this little table and chairs set.

Staring contest:

Puddy thinks that the bouncer is hers. She sleeps in it all the time. Heaven forbid if we want to actually put the baby in it! I had just unceremoniously dumped her out to put Fisher in it. Before I could even put him down, she jumped right back in, the little stinker! So, I put Fisher right on top of her. (It's not the most flattering picture of Fisher, but you can see how fat his little arms are getting!)

Puddy was all set to stay until Fisher got pissed and started shrieking. She jumped out soon after. But, doesn't she look put-out that he is invading her territory?

Betty and Butch were still visiting for the first half of the week. We had a great visit and they really enjoyed their grandkids!
Hayes "hiding" from Butch:

Reading his new "Cars" books on the couch:

We had a very brief visit to a small zoo in Springfield, Mass. that was cut short by a downpour.

Peeking at an animal:

Horse Whisperer???

So happy to be close to a horse!

After Hayes was born, we were concerned with his weight-gain. We weighed him in this scale:

It was only fitting that we take Fisher's pic in the same scale!

Last but not least, a parting shot of our garden:

Love, looove the picture of Fisher in the big blue chair! And Hayes is still as cute as ever. Also, I'm so jealous of you and Shaunna having your beautiful gardens. We can't even get grass to grow in some spots of our yard.

great post!! I was smiling the whole time while reading what Hayes is saying these days. LOVE that he said Mommy is his girlfriend, it doesn't get any better than that!
