Visit from my Mom and Dad

My parents drove a long 16 hours up to Connecticut to spend a great 8 whole days (and 9 nights) with us. They timed their visit to be here for Hayes' birthday. We had a great time with them and they got to bond with Hayes, providing grandparent daycare while Kyle and I worked a few days last week. Here is Hayes snuggling and playing with Papa Glenn:Hayes snuggling with both Papa Glenn and Nana Judy---he kept burying his head in their chests!
Playing with Nana Judy (with very age-appropriate toys, I might add... Hayes is enamored with the shiny martini shaker and ice bucket--they stack neatly inside one another.)

Last Saturday, we visited a sugarhouse and learned how maple syrup was made. Then, we ate at their restaurant so we could sample some of their product---it was great! The air around the sugarhouse smelled so sweet---look at all the steam rising and filling the air:
They also had a little playground and an "animal farm" that kept us entertained while we waited for a table.

This pic shows sap dripping out of a sugar maple into a bucket---it tasted sweet but watery. They say it takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup! On Hayes' birthday, we went to a playground to burn some one-year old energy. Those pictures are on his birthday post. On Thursday, we went to the aquarium in Mystic. The sea lions and beluga whales were our favorites.

Here is one of Hayes mid-clap during the sea lion show: Friday, we had Hayes' one-year photos taken. I'll post those in a day or so. Saturday, we had a nice visit from my cousin, Aaron, and his wife, Michelle, and their girls. Dad cooked a wonderful Southern meal (one of many great dinners made during his visit) that was enjoyed by all. Here is a picture of the whole family and another pic of the girls-- Abby, Isabelle, and Haley: Mom and Dad packed up and left early this morning for the long trek back to SC--hopefully an uneventful and traffic-less journey. Mom and Dad: Thank you so much for your visit---it meant a lot to have you here with us on Hayes' birthday.

Looks like you guys had a great visit and a great birthday celebration. I'm really glad that Alison's parents could be there. I can't get over how big Aaron and Michelle's girls are- time really flies! We can't wait to see you guys!
