Week 18

Hayes had a wonderful week. He got to spend lots of quality time with his grandparents (Kyle's parents), who he hadn't seen since he was 5 weeks old. Betty and Butch flew in from SC to take care of Hayes while Kyle and I went out of town. Hayes thrived in their care and acquired some new skills while we were gone. He can blow raspberries and grasps toys put into his hands. He is constantly putting his hands in his mouth (see pic below) and he has learned how to read a book, squealing and squawking the whole time. He also has become more aware of the cats lately (poor things...they don't know what they're in for!). And Butch tried to brainwash our child, singing him the Furman alma mater. (Don't worry, we'll reverse the damage by singing him the Wofford alma mater Rev. Skinner style.) Anyways, Hayes was very well cared for and I think his presence was enjoyed by Betty and Butch, who are now back in SC and having Hayes withdrawal symptoms. Thank you, Betty and Butch, for taking such wonderful care of Hayes!

Kyle and I flew to Connecticut for a long weekend. Kyle interviewed for a faculty position at UConn back at the beginning of June. Long story short.... they offered him the job and we went for a second visit to see if that would be the place we'd move to. University of Connecticut it is. Kyle will be an assistant professor in the School of Pharmacy at UConn. He'll do lots of research and some teaching. Sounds very prestigious, doesn't it? I am so proud of him!!! (For the KU fans reading this: don't worry, we'll never forsake the Jayhawks!) We're not sure of the details yet of our move or the timing, but we'll keep everyone posted by way of the blog. I did give my notice of resignation this morning at work----it was a great feeling! I will miss my coworkers and several of my patients, but I am ready to get this next chapter in our lives started. Here are a few pictures of UConn, including the building where Kyle will work:

In other news, Hayes is toying with the idea of sleeping through the night. About a week and a half ago, he slept from 9:30 pm to 7:45 am. After the initial disbelief when I looked at the clock and then the fear that he was no longer breathing, I felt this wonderful feeling of well-restedness. He has not repeated this performance, but knowing that he is capable of it makes Kyle and me feel great hope!

Here are some pictures of the proud grandparents:
