So, after years of Kyle persuading (pestering, urging, cajoling) me to buy a vacation condo, I finally caved. Our good friends Patty and Brad bought a condo on a small lake in this area and lived there for a few years while Brad was in residency training. We visited them a couple times and Kyle fell in love with the idea of having a place to "get away" that was close enough to home (2.5 hours) and that the kids would grow up going to and think of as their second home. We visited again in October and Kyle had us meet with a realtor to "just look" at what was on the market. Well, next thing you know, (actually, after a week of thought) I'm agreeing to put in an offer on one of the condos. The owner accepted the incredibly low offer and now, we own a vacation home!!!! We traveled up and closed on Friday and spent the weekend starting to get the place organized. As you can see from these pictures, it is a bit outdated and needs as little TLC in the decor department. But it's large (5 bedrooms, 3.5 baths) and there's lots of room for visitors! The condo is stand-alone (does not share any walls) and is a part of a community with a small lake (no wake, so good for canoes, etc), a golf course, sledding, tennis, cross country skiing, hiking, and an indoor pool at the activity center. And the condo is about 20 minutes away from decent skiing and an hour away from great skiing. Maybe we'll have to do some family holiday get togethers up in New Hampshire!
Here is the view of the front walk. All of the condos are painted brown.
Inside the front door:Enclosed entry-way---great place to take off boots and coats:
Awesome wood-burning fireplace:
It's a very open living/dining area with a vaulted ceiling of 18-20 feet:
Kinda sparse living room---we need to get some more furniture:
Powder room with mirrored doors to the...
...washer and dryer!
Master bath:
Master bedroom:
Galley style (very outdated) kitchen:
We want to take these upper cabinets down to open the kitchen up a little bit more to the living area--- a project for next time we go up:
Landing area upstairs---perfect for a recliner for a grandfather to take a nap in (hint, hint):
There's a loft area up the ladder that we'll let the boys go up in once they get a little older:There's even a bed up there!
Upstairs bathroom---I don't know that I've ever seen a red counter-top before:
Upstairs bedroom with a sky-light (there's also a sky-light above the kitchen table):
Another view of the bedroom---check out that headboard!
Second upstairs bedroom:
Downstairs/Basement bathroom:
Downstairs bedroom:
Empty room that is all finished except for flooring. We will likely put carpet in and have this be the kids' playroom.
Walkout Basement view. The trail goes down towards the lake, a few minutes walking:
Second bedroom downstairs that can be separated into two with pocket doors:
The other side of the pocket-doors:
Checking out the lake and throwing rocks:
Hayes got to stand on the ice in a frozen section. Next time we go up, the whole lake will be frozen!
Visitors are welcome anytime!!!!
