Days 3-5

The twins are doing well and improving day by day. Both have had to go under the "bili" lights for jaundice. They look like they're lounging at the beach getting a sun tan! Both are getting breast milk/formula from the tubes that you see in their mouths that lead directly to their stomachs. We have been able to hold them, first while they were wearing their CPAP tubing and more recently, without the tubing. They do well for short periods of time breathing on their own without the oxygen flow through the tubes----what the nurses call "trialling." Basically, the longer they trial successfully (don't need oxygen), the sooner they'll get to go off the CPAPs. We've also held them "skin to skin" where they rest against our chests and use our body heat to keep warm. The nurses are fantastic and get us involved with the babies' care, whether it be taking their temps or changing their teensy little diapers. They are so tiny! Here are some pics of Marin: (we missed the first day---week zero---since we weren't prepared for their birth---so day 3 was the earliest we could get organized with our weekly blocks).

Skin to skin with Kyle:

Off the CPAP, but still wearing her "mustache," the velcro used to hold the CPAP in place---and she's a blondie!:

Me holding Marin for the first time without her CPAP:

Love, Love the pics, Alison!! You look so great...seriously can see the joy in your face. Those sweet babies made me tear up (ok, I am hormonal, but still!)

I can't believe you've already started with the blocks! Bravo! You will definitely have your hands full with doing weekly twin blocks! I bet Hayes will be a big help in trying to coordinate the photo sessions...he's a pro at it now.

I'm so glad they are doing as well as they are. I hope you are recovering fast, too. Can't wait to see more pics!

Great pictures! You look amazing, Alison! I'm so glad that they're letting you guys do "koala care" (skin to skin) with the babies. Our NICU staff swears by it. I think they both look like their big brother, especially their noses.
