Days 3-5

The twins are doing well and improving day by day. Both have had to go under the "bili" lights for jaundice. They look like they're lounging at the beach getting a sun tan! Both are getting breast milk/formula from the tubes that you see in their mouths that lead directly to their stomachs. We have been able to hold them, first while they were wearing their CPAP tubing and more recently, without the tubing. They do well for short periods of time breathing on their own without the oxygen flow through the tubes----what the nurses call "trialling." Basically, the longer they trial successfully (don't need oxygen), the sooner they'll get to go off the CPAPs. We've also held them "skin to skin" where they rest against our chests and use our body heat to keep warm. The nurses are fantastic and get us involved with the babies' care, whether it be taking their temps or changing their teensy little diapers. They are so tiny!
