Week 47

For this week's picture, I used the entire container of blocks as a decoy to distract Hayes from the weekly blocks. The decoy only lasted for a few seconds---you see, out of all the blocks, he wanted the ones that spelled out "WEEK 47" in particular. It is getting much more difficult to distract him from what he wants these days. He can be very determined (that's putting a nice spin on the fact that he throws mini tantrums when you take away a coveted toy). It's also getting hard to catch a smile from him since he is much more absorbed in his toys and less interested in smiling for boring old mom with her camera.

Hayes has two new tricks this week that he is constantly repeating: 1--pick up something hard and heavy and drop it over and over on the hardwood floors to see how loud it is (wooden salad bowls are a favorite) and 2--toss a ball across the floor, chase it down, then throw or roll it further away, then chase it again and again. It's fun to watch him so interested in learning about his environment (through noise) and play independently (giving us a break).

Week 47 has been uneventful. In fact, the most exciting event was the installation of a new front door in the house. No longer do we have frigid air streaming through the cracks around the entire perimeter of the door. And the new door lets in a lot more light. Both the cats and Hayes are enjoying the new view. Today, we were able to enjoy my day off by heading to a local community center where they have open gym time for young children. Hayes played with (well, more like alongside) some other little fellas and was totally enthralled by the roll/ride-on toys. Maybe we'll go again and meet some adult friends for me and kid friends for Hayes! Here are a few pics from today:

Here are some pics of us playing in Hayes' room and with his tunnel (he was uninterested in it and maybe a little scared of it until last weekend):
