Today we had another ultrasound and doctor's visit. Baby looks perfect! He is currently estimated to weigh 1 pound, 2 ounces. He was moving his lips around quite a bit and kicking a little. Kyle really liked seeing the four chambers of the heart and so we asked the sonographer to get a picture. The baby kept flitting off the screen when she tried to get this view for us; he really made her work for her money! Mom (me!) is doing better---the placenta has shifted upwards somewhat. So, it's no longer a placenta previa, but still considered a low-lying placenta. We did get a great view of the umbilical cord insertion into the placenta. The problem is, it inserts at the very bottom of the placenta. This is still cause for a little caution and monitoring--the doctor said that if it doesn't shift as I get bigger, then we may have to do a scheduled C-section as they wouldn't want me going into labor and causing damage to the umb. cord. I'm not sure if this makes much sense to any of you, but the doctor explained it to us very well. Kyle's theory is that this little guy likes to be center stage and really enjoys the limelight of our photoshoots (ultrasounds). The peanut keeps coming up with more reasons for us to be able to see him again and again! Our next visit will be in 4 weeks with yet another ultrasound.
The following are pictures of the heart. The first is the original and in the second I've drawn in the lines for the 4 chambers of the heart so you'll know where to look in the first one. It's not all that clear, but we hope you can use your imagination and see it anyways!
