Freak October Snowstorm

So, on the 29th of OCTOBER, we had a huge snowstorm that dropped up to 20 inches of snow in Connecticut.  We were lucky to only get 9 inches.  However, we were also very unlucky, along with about 885,000 other people, in that we lost power.  Normally, it is much later in the fall or in winter before any big snowfall occurs.  Since this was in OCTOBER, most of the trees still had their leaves on them.  The weight of the snow on top of the leaves caused many branches to fall on top of power lines, causing massive widespread power outage.  Let's just say that our power company totally screwed the pooch in the restoration effort.  We were without power for 7 days.  SEVEN DAYS.  The nights were cold, dropping into the low 20's.  Our house got pretty cold---49 on Tuesday morning.  It is so disheartening to not be able to keep your children warm.  Luckily, we were able to get a generator that day, which was quite the hot commodity here in CT.  Our wonderful neighbors helped to hook it up and restored heat to us.  We were so grateful!  Here are some pictures of the beautiful snowfall that belies the havoc it wreaked.  Notice the branches weighed down by the snow.  We only lost a few limbs from our trees.

Hayes had a blast in the snow and sledded for the first time ever with our neighbor and Hayes' hero, Zach:

Since our refrigerator had no power, we used mother nature to help keep our milk cold:

We feel like we lost a week of our lives.  Daycare was closed.  My office was closed until Friday.  Kyle only went to work for a couple half days.  Power finally came back on in the middle of last night.  Now, back to our lives!
