Doctor visits galore

I just wanted to give an update on how things are going. We had an ultrasound and doctor's appointment on Tuesday. The ultrasound was our 11th (maybe------we've had so many I've lost count) and showed Pyle to be doing well. He scored 8/8. I'm not really sure exactly what that means, but it sure sounds good! My body looks to be holding steady as well---no changes noted since the ultrasound last week. Pyle will be measured again next week to estimate his weight. The last weight we were told was 3 lbs., 5 oz. and that was 3 weeks and 2 days ago. So, we're hoping that he's about a 5 pounder at this point. I keep thinking that if I went into labor right now, that a 5 lb. baby is perfectly respectable. Here I was worrying that Pyle would be a HUGE baby like his father at birth--10 lb., 4 oz.. Now, I am crossing my fingers that he'll weigh enough and be developed enough at birth to spend as little time in any NICU as possible. The irony...

Wednesday was a big day for us. I officially hit 32 weeks! This means that if Pyle is delivered at any point from here on out, he has the same survivability as a full-term baby. That was our first milestone that the doctor wanted us to reach. The next milestone will come at 34 weeks, when Pyle will be able to be delivered safely here in Lawrence and will not have to be sent to a NICU in Topeka or Kansas City. Cross your fingers!!!

Today, I went in for another non-stress test (NST). Pyle's heartbeat was great. I apparently am still having contractions, even while taking the contraction-stopping medication. The doc at the office said that was OK, though. I will go in for more doctor visits, sonos, NSTs next week. I'll keep everyone posted.

This weekend, we're planning on doing a little organizing in the nursery. Or, Kyle will be doing the organizing while I do the directing (what I do best---hee, hee). Poor Kyle! I'll post some pictures after we make the room look somewhat livable.

The first week of bedrest has gone pretty smoothly. I definitely miss being at work (hard to believe, I know) and feel a little useless. I spend my days watching TV, movies, reading, talking on the phone, and laying on the couch. Kyle has been remarkable! I never expected any different from him, but he's been just fantastic with running errands, cooking, cleaning, etc. What a terrific husband he is and what a lucky wife I am!

On the next installment, I'll dish on the name "Pyle" for any of you who don't know the story.
