Our trip to Colorado to see some friends

This past weekend, Kyle and I flew to Colorado to spend a long weekend with our good friends Kevin and Becky and their ever-expanding brood. The last time we visited them was two years ago for Thanksgiving. They have since had two more children..... Owen is 4 1/2, Reese is 1 1/2, and Keira is 5 1/2 months. WOW!!!!! All I can say is that watching how wonderful Becky and Kevin are with their three terrific kids made us feel like we have a TON to learn. They work really well as a team and are fantastic parents. Owen is super friendly and curious and smart and loves to sit on your lap. Reese is so innocent and loving and just starting to really discover his little world. Keira is the quietest baby I've ever seen--just a peaceful little soul, always watching what's going on around her.

Other than having two more children since we'd last seen them, Kevin and Becky haven't changed a bit. They moved out to Colorado for Kevin to take a position as a post-doctoral researcher at Colorado University. He and Kyle went to grad school together at MUSC (and are both now searching for that elusive first job that doesn't require 10 years experience). Becky telecommutes several hours a week, besides being sole caregiver for the kids while Kevin is at work. Kevin and Becky LOVE their home and community of Longmont--their neighborhood is very family oriented with Owen's school in short walking distance.

We arrived Thursday night and were picked up at the Denver airport by Owen and Kevin. We sat up late with Kevin and Becky and told them our news---they were both super happy for us. (It is so much fun to see people get really excited for us when we tell them we're pregnant---K and B were two of those people!) Friday, Kev went to work and we 'helped' Becky with her daily routine. (By helped, I mean we watched helplessly and with our mouths open in awe and wonder.) We took walks to the park, took Owen to school, played, etc. Most of all, we visited. On Saturday, we all went to Boulder Falls, a small waterfall just outside of Boulder that involved a very short hike--don't worry, I didn't overexert myself. We played with the kids, ate a fantastic dinner that Becky prepared, and then played our new "Train Game" (thanks Patty and Brad). Sunday, we were escorted back to the airport by Reese and Kevin. We had a wonderful weekend and hopefully, we won't let 2 more years pass before we see them again! Thank you, Kevin and Becky, for having us!

This past weekend was also Gillian and Casey's baby shower in NC at their home. We missed being there, but felt like we were a part of it after viewing Gillian's Blog update---see link to their blog at right. Congratulations to you both! We're anxiously awaiting the first Baby of this generation!
